Today was our final day of class (final day is next Monday). I felt really good about today. We went over the syllabus to see how we fared. We did seem to meet the course objectives "by the end of the year, we will..." and we talked about most of the topics/concepts/themes I intended to cover. I also shared about a dozen books and some of the ideas promulgated by them. We had active discussion by many in the class. I read an Adbusters piece about industrial eating. Everyone got something from today, although different for each person, I'm sure

I clarified the big three assignments.

!) 1-5 page essay connecting "Men with Guns" with Frontline coffee video with handout about diamonds & apartheid with Starbucks article (and anything else we've learned)
2) film project
3) final: either a narrative description (written from Matt's point of view) written to your parents or an expansive "What I learned" integrating the whole year's worth of learning.

We watched a couple more segments of "TV Nation"

I gave an in class assignment to write 5 Nothings & Somethings. A Nothing is question in which the answer is exact and closed. A Something is a related question which is open for many answers and is open.

I read more from The Power of Mindful Learning by Ellen Langer.
